Finding the Right Spot for your Session
Every SINGLE couple or person I photograph is different. There’s never two sessions that go the same. One of the most important aspects of your shoot, is if they reflect who you ARE. Not beautiful pictures where you look really pretty and frolicking…but images that speak to who you are. Picking where you want to have your session is incredibly important. A lot of my couples think “yes…I love nature and it’s super pretty so let’s just do that” but don’t think about how your location can determine a feel of each image.
NATURE: Some people feel free in nature and want that to show through. Savannah and Austin LOVE to hike, and had found this amazing little stick teepee they knew they wanted to use in their engagement pictures. Every pictures shows how comfortable they are outside and the joy just radiates from them!
URBAN: The opposite side of this is a fantastic option that can be used for a little bit of a different feel. Want to feel modern, a little edgy, and just plain cool? LET’S SHOOT IN A CITY! Let’s find a mural, a coffee shop, or a bookstore and let’s cook it. Kaley and Matt may not agree on drinking coffee, but don’t worry, Matt got some chocolate milk and they were quite at home at Sons of Anarchy in Fort Worth.
A way to twist your urban session? BRING. YOUR. DOGGO. Claire and Travis LOVE LOVE LOVE their boy Chase. He is the goodest little golden retriever and he obviously needed to be included in the engagement session. If your fur baby is super important to you and your family, by all means, bring that little one! I love adding that little unique aspect to a session and you better know I’m going to give ALL THE PETS. I mean…LOOK AT THAT FACE!
ADVENTURE SESSION: Now…this is like nature..but with a little spin. Do you and your honey LOVE to hike and throw caution to the wind? Do you want to jump in a waterfall and climb up a mountain to get THE best shot? THEN BY GOLLY ADVENTURE SESSIONS ARE FOR YOU! Anna and Chester are COMPLETE nature fanatics and love a good adventure. Anna runs enormous trail races and Chester is always there to try to keep up. Basically, dropping down into a hole with the tide coming in was right up their alley.
GIVE IT A TWIST: So here is another way to look at it. These two wanted nature, but also to be SPOOKY. A regular nature session didn’t really convey who they were. Too light and fun. But put them in the woods and maybe put some pumpkins on their heads? JACKPOT! Don’t ever be afraid to come up with ideas that you think would work awesome for who you are. Do you love video games? Let’s include it. Wanna frolic in a field? let’s do it. Want to carve pumpkins and put them on your head? DONE.
No matter what you love…there is always a spot for you. Never be afraid to talk about what would work best. I love working with exactly what vision you’re thinking, and putting some ideas together to make it the best shoot for you I can! Do some research on places around you! We’ll find the best one, and ROCK YOUR SHOOT!
