But....WHAT DO I WEAR?! Family Edition
The time of family photos is FAST approaching. I know it’s hard to think about when the second you step outside, your face melts off, but it’s true. Soon comes the time to grab all your children, bribe them with candy in order to smile, and get your holiday cards ready to mail. If you’re asking yourself, what on earth should I dress my tiny humans in…I have the answer for you! Let’s review the rules shall we?
PLAY OFF PATTERNS AND TEXTURE!
When you’re thinking about what to wear, remember outfits that look cohesive instead of completely matching. Different subtle patterns mixed with some great textures all in a complimentary palette make SUCH a great look. I’m loving the sparkles, floral and check pattern all meshing together in a lovely blush palette!
2. ACCESSORIES CAN BE YOUR FRIEND
Vests, hats, scarves, or a statement necklace are all really great ideas to make your pictures stand out a little and make them unique. This fur vest was PERFECT for the sweet little one and it still matches and doesn’t stand out too much. One accessory for a family helps add a little depth to the images and mixes it up a little bit.
3. TRY TO STICK TO NEUTRALS AND MUTED PALETTES
Olive, maroon, mustard, rust, brown, black, white, and grey are all AMAZING options. I love the mixture of mustard and rust in this picture and how it adds to the background while still making them stand out. Bright colors can date your images, or make someone be the focus of every single image.
4. TRY TO STAY AWAY FROM LOGOS
I promise, the last thing you want to see is little Timmy's nike swoosh 10 years down the road when you're looking back at your pictures. Any logo t-shirt is going to look 100 times better if that logo is no where to be found. You don't need to go really fancy by any means. These photos should represent who YOU are, even if that means really comfy. Just pick the t-shirt that has no branding.
5. DRESS IN WHAT MAKES YOU COMFORTABLE
THIS IS BY FAR THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE! If you’re a dress person, by all means, you wear your MOST FAVORITE dress. More comfy in jeans? WEAR THE JEANS. These pictures are supposed to showcase who you ARE, not who you think would be in traditional family pictures. I want to shoot your family exactly how you are, that’s what makes every image so special!!
I LOVE helping families get dressed! If you have any questions, never hesitate to ask me! I can give examples or help you make decisions between two options. Want a family session? LET’S DO IT! Click here to get on the schedule!
